A portion of a road on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan’s Dausa district has caved in. According to Balveer Yadav, Project Director of the expressway in Dausa, the road caved in due to a water leak.
A video recorded by commuters show a deep crater in the middle of the road. Another video shows a bulldozer removing the debris.
As soon as the contractor got information about the matter, he immediately barricaded the area and the pothole was repaired, Yadav said.
“The road is getting damaged continuously due to rain, so the work of repairing it is also going on,” Yadav said.
Stretching over 1,386 kilometres, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is India’s longest expressway. It aims to significantly reduce travel time between the two cities from the current 24 hours to just 12-13 hours.
The expressway passes through several states, including Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
The construction of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is about 80 per cent complete, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on July 31 this year. According to the minister, the project requires at least one more year to complete.
